Duba Plains is one of the Okavango Delta's most remote camps and is located in the furthermost reaches in a very private reserve of 30,000 hectares, north of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve.
The camp is built on an island shaded by large ebony, fig and mangosteen trees and surrounded by expansive plains which are seasonally flooded - usually from about May to early October each year, depending on the rains. Since Duba has access to large islands, floodplains and marshes, the camp offers a diversity of experiences. Duba's real treat is its exclusivity and it is particularly suited to those who want to be in a truly remote reserve. The camp's dining room and pub are raised on decking under large riverine trees. There is a small swimming pool too. The camp is operated by Wilderness Safaris.

Room

Tucked under the cool shade of large mangosteen and fig trees and looking across the reserve’s vast floodplains, the six traditional “Meru-Style” sturdy canvas en-suite tents are raised off the ground on wooden decks. This enables stunning views across the floodplain as well as capturing fresh, cool breezes. Each of the tents has a private verandah leading to large double doors, which enter the canvas-constructed tents. High ceilings with fans and large windows bring the outside in, while still affording ample privacy. A writing desk, comfortable lounge furniture and large beds with the finest linen draped in mosquito nets make for a romantic yet authentic space. The en-suite dressing area with a double basin vanity, indoor and outdoor showers and a flush toilet provide all the home comforts, with appropriate style and luxury. All hot water is available 24 hours a day and is solar heated. The main lounge, bar and dining room are intimate and open-air, built under vaulted thatch roofs. An outdoor dining area for brunches and a large plunge pool are tucked away from the main area, offering a refreshing afternoon retreat. And of course, the evening open-air fireplace hosts stories of each day's adventures. For those eager to pick up some local wares, a small curio shop, which was completely rebuilt in February 2012, meets the need. An extra indulgence at Duba Plains is the new masseuse area which was completed in February 2012. This area, which is by the water’s edge, is a perfect location for having the tension of travel removed whilst staring out across the Okavango Delta.

Meru-style Tents

Meru-style tents are all en suite with double basin vanities and indoor solar-powered showers. The king-sized beds are draped in soft mosquito nets while an adjoining lounge with comfortable furniture provides a place to take in the fantastic Delta views. High ceilings and windows bring nature into the tent while still affording guests adequate privacy. On the quaint private deck outside a plunge pool and alfresco shower allow guests to keep immersed in their beautiful natural surroundings while still enjoying the comforts of home.

Dining

The open-air dining room is built under a vaulted thatch roof and forms part of the main communal area with the bar and lounge area. A romantic outdoor dining area for brunches is tucked away under a canopy of trees near the swimming pool. Afternoon tea comprising delicious sweet and savoury snacks is served before afternoon activities, while packed breakfasts and picnic lunches are arranged when guests embark on extended game drives.

Recreation

Duba Plains is known for the titanic clashes between buffalo and lion, so a classic game drive is one that tracks down the truly enormous buffalo herd to see if any lion are also headed in that direction. Aside from this interaction the age-old conflict between lion and spotted hyaena is also a point of interest. Birdlife is abundant and impressive, with many Okavango Delta specials such as Rosy-throated Longclaw, Slaty Egret and Wattled Crane being found in the area. A variety of activities include day and night game drives, often tracking the buffalo herd or various lion prides around the concession and leisurely nature walks. Mokoro trips are also possible in times of good floods - usually only between May and September.
