Welcome to Sabuk Lodge. A remote and exclusive wilderness haven situated on the edge of the Northern Laikipia Plateau, where the Ewaso Nyiro River cascades below all year round.
Sabuk Lodge is a luxury eco-friendly lodge that is situated in a private game reserve in the Northern Laikipia Plateau in Kenya. It is sustainably constructed out of locally sourced wood and stone, so it has a quirky feel. As it is on a private nature reserve, this lodge in Kenya can offer many alternative activities to enjoy on an East African safari holiday.
Guests can spot wildlife such as Reticulated Giraffe from the back of Camels which can go on safari where the game drives cannot. Alternately, head out on foot with an armed Samburu guide and learn about bird calls, how to track animals and which plants can heal or be used to make poison arrows. Go swimming in the Ewaso Nyiro River or have hours of fun river tubing.
The lodge works closely with the local community and has many conservation initiatives. Guests can visit the traditional homesteads of the Samburu and Laikipak Maasai to learn about their pastoral way of life. The Laikipia area has more endangered wildlife than anywhere else in Kenya. Chances of seeing Black Rhino are good and there is a thriving population of African Wild Dogs.
Room
Sabuk Lodge has 8 open sided cottages that have wonderful views over the nearby River. Each cottage is unique in that it has been constructed from stone and wood found in the immediate area, creating a beautiful quirky cottage. They are each individually furnished with hand crafted furniture. The en-suite bathrooms are open sided and have hot showers as well as deep stone baths that are the perfect place to have a leisurely soak while admiring the endless view. They have king-size beds nestled under a huge canopy of a mosquito net. The main lodge opens onto a spacious terrace area that has an infinity pool overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River down below. This is a great spot to relax on the sun bed and sip on a refreshing cocktail, or have a cooling dip in the swimming pool. The main lodge has a spacious lounge dining room filled with hand crafted furniture scattered with plush cushions. There are hammocks and huge day beds throughout the lodge that are wonderful spots for an afternoon nap, or to curl up with a good book.
Twin Room
This is the private villa at Sabuk lodge which has a secluded setting away from the main lodge. It is ideal for a group travelling together and is fully self-contained with two en-suite bungalows and an elegant dining and living area and its own plunge pool.
Lodge Rooms
The lodge rooms have fabulous views. Sabuk was fashioned out of the local landscape, built with local materials, twisted wood and stone boulders incorporated into the architecture. Open fronted and private veranda’s face out over the river gorge 150 feet below.

Sabuk Lodge allows guests to explore the region, see lots of wildlife and learn about African culture while on walking safaris or their speciality which is Camelback safaris. Guided bush walks, game drives, camel safaris and full/half day excursions, fly-camping, cultural visits, bush-breakfasts and picnic lunches on the riverbank, hill-top sun-downers, line fishing, river-swimming, tubing and rock jumping (seasonal) as well as horse riding.
